So I recently decided to give Daily Look's Elite box a try after having tried Stitch Fix a number of times. Subscription boxes really seem to be in, and lately, I'm completely fascinated by the idea of having a personal stylist with curated pieces. Although I love shopping for myself, I was intrigued and wanted to "refresh" my wardrobe with some fashion items selected by someone else for me.
So this is how it works...
Fill out your style profile.
You can even share your social media profiles to personalize it further.
A personal stylist will pick your pieces. You receive an email when your box is styled, and you can preview the items. You can swap out up to 3 pieces if you don't like them.
You will have 7-12 pieces selected for you based on your styling profile. You can also contact your stylist via email.
I received my email saying my stylist had finished styling me quite a while before the box was shipped. If you want a surprise, you don't have to look at your "preview," but I did. I saw all of the contents and chose 3 pieces I didn't like. They let you "swap" them out if you don't like them. The stylist will pick 3 other items for you, but you don't get to know what they are. It's a gamble, but at least you make sure you don't get anything you really don't like.
There's a $40 styling fee that can be applied towards any items you keep from your box.
The box gets shipped to your front door and you can try them out.
My box arrived exactly on that date I chose. You get to try on the pieces and have 5 days after you get the box to make a decision.
Choose what you want to keep and send back the rest.
If you buy 3 or more items from your box you get 50% off the lowest priced item. Your styling fee ($40) is also applied at check out. The rest you don't want you can return in the box they provided you with. They include a free return label.
You check out online and can review all the items and specifically state what you liked and didn't like about each item. This is helpful for future stylings.

My Box arrived!
The packaging is on point. It comes in a big shipping box, but the actual clothing items are contained within this pretty blue box wrapped with ribbon.
Trying on the Clothing
I received 9 items total, and I decided to keep 3 things! For reference, I'm petite (5'3") and I have a curvier frame. I usually wear a size medium and in between 4-6 women's.
The heels are Sam Edelman-- they weren't sent to me, I own them ^^ |
Now and Later Knit Top ($64.00) & Suede Button Front Scalloped Skirt ($49.00) - I really liked both items! Totally my style, and I requested a scalloped-detailed skirt, so they nailed that part. The medium top fit well, as I'm normally a medium and I liked the flowy sleeves. Stripes are also my weakness and my favorite pattern. The skirt was a tad snug, but not too tight. I decided to return the shirt as I already have so many stripes in my closet, and because this is totally me, I already have similar items. RETURNED SHIRT; KEPT SKIRT.
Lace Dress w/ Bell Sleeves ($58.00) - This dress is fashionably oversized, and so they sent me a small. It drapes loosely, but somehow, in a flattering and non-tent like way. It was hard capturing the detailing and colors, but the dress is black and navy with lace! I felt it was surprisingly slimming. Loved this! KEPT.
SL Elaina Asym Knit Ponte Dress ($98.00) - This is the perfect little black dress. I don't like bodycon usually, but this was incredibly flattering, soft, and slimming. The material on the clothing seems so high quality so far. I really liked the pointed hem at the bottom, just a nice little detail. Although I usually avoid sleeveless tops (I have a complex about my broader shoulders), this didn't emphasize my shoulders too much! KEPT.
SS Layla V-Neck Popover Blouse ($58.00) & Femme Cropped Trousers ($48.00) - I wasn't crazy about this ensemble. The top had a weird dropped shoulder and I didn't like how deep the v-neck plunged. The pants, I liked, especially the unique camel color, but I wasn't a fan of the cuffed and cropped hem at the bottom. It made the dress pants appear too casual for my taste. The length was good, however. I'm also a big sash pant/shorts fan and already have a number of them that I like better from Express. They were also quite large on me. RETURNED BOTH.
Lightweight Ruffled Batwing Short Sleeve ($60.00) - The top was way too sheer and while the "batwing" sleeve was unique, I wasn't in love. The sides under my arms were completely open, but then they had a thin covering that was part of the regular shirt. It was odd. When I lifted my arms I indeed felt like I had wings. RETURNED.
The Fifth Label Hold on Lightweight Jacket ($49.95) - I had requested a dusty rose-colored blazer, so I'm assuming this was their take on that? I can't deny that I absolutely hated this jacket. It was way too long and over-sized (and this was an XS!!!) and just ended up looking like a bathrobe on me. RETURNED.
Six Crisp Days Oversized Grid Long Jacket ($58.00) - Again, this jacket was just way too long. I liked the pattern and the material felt super high quality, but it was also very heavy for the spring/summer. It seems more like a winter or fall jacket. The shape was also very boxy and oversized, so I had to pass this one up as well. RETURNED.
Stylist Note & Returning
Below is my personalized card from my stylist!
So after trying everything on, I had a few days to make a decision. I decided same day and folded and put the clothing I didn't want back in the box. I slapped on the return label they provided and dropped it off at UPS. You can also arrange for a pick up to your house I think.
Checkout is a breeze and online, and you comment/rate each item so they can better style you in the future. They apply your $40 styling fee towards your items, and you can also used the code MYBOX50 off the lowest price item if you purchase at least 3 items or more.
My Thoughts
I like Daily Look much better than Stitch Fix so far. I think the ability to "preview" before items are shipped are great for people who have specific items in mind, or who are picky about what they like. I also think that although the styling fee is pricier than Stitch Fix ($40 vs. $20) you get a lot more items, and I found the clothing a bit less expensive. The quality of clothing was also better in my opinion.
Lastly, with most styling boxes, it doesn't pay to not buy anything. You'd essentially be paying the styling fee for nothing, other than getting to try clothes on. Basically, I think it only pays to do clothing subscription boxes like these if you plan to actually buy something :)
